Long live my mother’s words. A common social norm is that we always know what the right thing to do is. We know we should go the gym instead of sitting on the couch. We know we should eat healthier instead of binging on junk food or that we need to sit down and focus for an hour. We know.
The tough part is deciding what to do in a given moment. Your future starts today not tomorrow, with actions you chose to do today! Trust me! Sometimes this is hard, I know, BUT when you are able to switch your mental state and do what is necessary when you should this will spark a beautiful new course in your life.
Steven Pressfield in The War of Art states, “We don’t tell ourselves, ‘I’m never going to write my symphony, instead we say, ‘I’m going to write my symphony; I’m just going to start tomorrow.’”
…this gives us false hope and at the end of the day we are only lying to ourselves.
- Make a habit of saying “I’ll do that right away” no matter how you feel. As Tony Robbins says, ‘be more than your moods’!
- Not everything needs to be done! For example it would be nice for everyone to have an elite athletic body. But is it something you really want to do? Learn to say no to some things so you can get your important tasks done today.
- Don’t overthink it. This can turn into a nasty habit which has the power to stop us from performing indefinitely. Most things are simple and the only requirement is for you to get started.
- Take note on how you feel after you get things done. A euphoric state of mind is often the result which can be repeated if only…we get things done today!
“You get what you deserve. Instead of being a good person today, you choose instead to become one tomorrow.” – Marcus Aurelius
What are you going to get out of the way today?
