What to look out for in the winter to keep our skin healthy and hydrated!

Temperature change, heating and feeling cold has an effect on our skin!

“Winter brings with it harsh weather, shorter days, less sunshine, and a dramatic change in diet from seasonal salads and fruits to soups and warmer food. All these factors have a direct impact on skin tone and radiance, “explains Noella Gabriel, co-founder and creator of ELEMIS therapies. “The skin responds in a different way for each individual – some become oily, others dehydrated and others very sensitive. However, the key requirements remain largely the same: protection, nutrition and nutrients”.

The first important rule is to exfoliate your skin. There are many exfoliating products on the market but it is good to consult your therapist about the proper exfoliant for your skin type.

Tip: Excessive exfoliation brings opposite results.

Do not be afraid to apply oil to your skin. During winter the skin tends to dehydrate due to extreme temperature changes (lower outside, higher inside due to heating) and also because it loses some of the oil it produces. There are many facial and body oils suitable for all skin types.

You can also add a hydrating serum to your face for extra hydration (as with winter clothes – we layer) This will offer extra moisturizing to your thirsty skin without burdening it. When temperature changes you shouldn’t change your day-to-day cream to a stronger one. The ideal thing to do is to “send” moisture to the deeper layers with a facial oil and/or a hydrating facial serum.

Do not forget to use your masks! Face masks are the perfect skin care treatment to help you with your skin care concerns. The right face mask can help hydrate skin, remove excess oils and help improve the appearance of your pores. They’re also an excellent way to help pull out impurities. Another advantage of wearing a face mask: the feeling of being pampered like you’re at a spa from the comfort of your own home.

Favourite: Exotic Cream Moisturizing Mask by ELEMIS (can also be used overnight for extra moisturizing)

Visiting your therapist for a revitalizing facial and body therapy will deeply moisturize you and will make the world of a difference.
