“Treat your makeup like jewellery for the face. Play with colors, shapes, structure – it can transform you.”

― Francois Nars

Colors have the power to stimulate all of your senses. Every shade of the rainbow has the ability to inspire emotional responses and generally have invigorating influences.

We’ve all heard about the theories of chakras and how they are the energy points in our bodies. Primarily, open chakras help us be alive and active as they bring in the life force energy continuously. In our bodies we have seven main chakras all aligned in a straight line – from the pelvic region up to the top of the head. Every chakra is represented by one of the seven colors of the rainbow, each of which has unique healing powers and properties – Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue, Purple, White.

By now some of you may be wondering why on earth am I talking about chakras since it has nothing to do with beauty! Well, some of your favourite makeup shades might actually help keep you healthy and balanced! Mixing your favourite hues with a not so favourite one might just be what you need at a particular stage of your life to help influence your mood and energy level! Well, l let’s break it down!Red – the hot and crazy one that whether we like it or not is the colour that arouses emotions such as fear, anger but most importantly passion. Wear a lighter hue to convey a sweet, innocent look or go bolder and darker for a more sophisticated, intriguing, sexy look!Orange – a highly popular colour that generally inspires enthusiasm and creativity. It’s casual but active and often used by many sports companies! It’s a ‘safe but edgy’ colour because ‘you are out there’ but you don’t want to attract too much attention; it’s fun and different yet safe!Yellow –  an inviting colour which usually brings a smile to the person wearing it! This however is true only for clothes and accessories because when it comes to cosmetics then you need to be a bit careful. If your skin has yellow undertones, then wearing any shade of yellow will only make you look pale and jaundice like. (to be safe let’s keep this colour to a pair of earrings or a scarf maybe)Green – the colour that makes a person feel relaxed, refreshed and minty. Wearing green eyeshadow oozes sophistication. Wear it to make a positive first impression or to show that your stress level is definitely under control!Blue – the calmest of colors! The one that easily cools you down after a busy day (in attire that is) because as far as makeup is concerned, blue shades send an instant message of joy. Create a not so daring but at the same time striking look by using a blue liner. “If you have blue or green eyes smudge a bit of the liner in the inner rims of your lower lids, just below your irises. If you have brown eyes, then swipe and smudge it right at the outer corners” says makeup artist Kara Yoshimoto Bua.Purple – a royal colour with an awkwardness, like yellow. Purple can be slightly tricky as it can either make you look creative and daring or make you look ill, so it must be approached with considerable affection as I like to say. A little goes a long way in the case of purple!

White – white is the ‘joker’ colour for me simply because it is very versatile! It can complement, highlight or even tone down a whole look! Just like in life, this colour is associated with serenity and peacefulness so using a white/beige colour can ease a sharp looking face.

I hope this was as enlightening to you as it was for me and hey… if you don’t feel very confident trying out anything new, you can just use it as an excuse to expand your kit with some fresh shades.

‘Till next week…
