We all know that mascara improves the look of our lashes. It may darken, thicken or define the eyelashes but if you are anything like me you will simply want to lengthen them and make your eyes look larger and more open.  Tip one; go for black! By default, it suits all and it simply enhances the natural shape of the eye. Tip two; try and avoid using waterproof mascara unless it’s really needed. It is harder to remove and the intense rubbing to take it off might cause unnecessary strain on the lashes (and we wouldn’t really want that). Tip three; don’t forget to colour bottom lashes as it is the finishing touch to your eye makeup and it will balance the overall look of your eyes. Lastly, always remember that you need to remove your mascara with something more than a simple facial cleanser. I usually use Declare Bi-Phase Sensitive Eye Makeup Remover.

Over the years I have gone through a variety of different brands trying to find the perfect brush that would give me length and a bit of volume too. Some were great while others simply ended up clumping my lashes and were a definite ‘no no’! Through this ‘trial & error’ period I also discovered the reason behind all the different kinds of available mascara brushes. So below are a few of my favourite brands and some useful info.

The Comb one: this brush helps colour shorter lashes as it grabs from the root and minimizes clumping

The Pointed one: this brush will help give you that extra bit of length when you turn it and use the tip after you have applied a coat the usual way

The Curved one: if your lashes are straight, this brush will grip them and give them that curling push upwards (for extra curling use an eyelash curler before application)

The Skinny one: if you have shorter lashes this brush will ensure that they are coated from the root making them appear longer

The Jumbo one: this is a sure win for volume and thickness

The Traditional one (plastic): this brush gives you definition and minimal clumping (my favourite of all brushes)

Below you will find a few of my personal favourites but remember that whatever works for me might not work for you. “The eyes are the window to our soul” Find the right mascara to ensure you have the most mesmerising window. For some extra curl I would suggest using a lash curler but always do so before applying mascara so as not to break the lashes but simply to crimp them.
