‘Oh no, not another cliche!’

The funny thing about clichés is that we’ve all heard them before, maybe even used some as a quote for a cool Instagram post but my job and responsibility as a coach, however, is to examine such clichés closely and break them down into practical and applicable steps.

People who say “I’ve heard that before” but do not consciously think about it and how it can make an impact on their life, for me, are missing the whole point!

So here are a few tips so to enjoy life as a journey, and not get too caught up with reaching destinations (A destination may be a specific career advancement, a relationship,  a car or house you wanted, a state of mind etc.)

  • The journey determines what the destination will look like, how we’ll engage with it and our response to it!
  • Destinations are really service stations on our life’s journey. It helps to reflect our actions and what person we become during these “pit stops”.
  • The journey creates storytelling and isn’t that what our life should be all about? Would you rather be a grandad/mom with many stories to share or just achievements/destinations to show?
  • When our happiness is dependent on the destination, we a part of a very dangerous game. Focusing on what we are grateful for is a far more important way to experience more happiness.
  • If we become too focused on destinations, we might be missing out on life! (experiences)
  • The person you become because of the experiences of the journey determines the way you will experience the destination. If you do not grow as a person, chances are the destination will not fulfill you.

Hope you start enjoying all the difficulties of life and use the experiences to self-improve and develop!
