Lavender essential oil is one of the most popular and versatile essential oils used in aromatherapy. Distilled from the plant Lavandula angustifolia, the oil promotes relaxation and is believed to treat anxiety, fungal infections, allergies, depression, insomnia, eczema, nausea, and menstrual cramps.

Lavender oil can also benefit the skin in numerous ways. It has the ability to lessen acne, help lighten skin, and reduce wrinkles. It can even be used to treat other things, like improving hair health and digestion.

Lavender oil can easily be purchased from health food stores, or even pharmacies, located near the other essential oils.

The three skincare uses of lavender oil:

Fighting Acne

Many acne products in the market tend to dry the skin to solve breakouts. But acne often flares up when your skin does not have enough oil and as a result it starts to overproduce sebum to help moisturise it which ultimately leads to clogged pores and acne formation! Using lavender oil will not only moisturise your skin, but it also unclogs pores and reduces inflammation due to its antibacterial effect. Dilute a few drops in coconut oil and apply it to your skin after washing your face.

Soothes Eczema and Dry Skin

Eczema can show up anywhere on your body so if you are itchy and your skin is dry and scaly then that’s a sign that it needs some much needed TLC!  Since lavender has antifungal properties and reduces inflammation, it can help calm eczema and reduce its effects. Use this essential oil but make sure you mix two three drops in two teaspoons of coconut oil and use daily after your shower.

Helps Prevent Wrinkles

By now we all know that free radicals are partially guilty for fine lines and wrinkles on the face (ok…! age has something to do with it to). But lavender oil is jam packed with antioxidants which help protect us from these free radicals and ultimately protecting us against wrinkles, fine lines, and dark age spots (need I say more to convince you?) So use lavender oil mixed with coconut oil once or twice a day as a moisturiser for a glowing, younger looking complexion!

Till next week…
