Hot days demand ice-cold, refreshing drinks! However, is it wise to water a wine down by putting ice in it?

The world of wine is a wonderfully rich and vibrant world, addressed to all kind of different consumers some of whom prefer their wine with a frosty touch. However, tempting as it is under 40 °C, when you add ice in your wine, it completely alters the original aromas and flavours of a wine, making it sometimes unrecognizable.

I am sure we all agree that there is nothing worse than drinking wine served at the wrong temperature. Find more about the correct serving temperatures here: http://www.wednesdaymorningcoffee.com/keep-summer-out-of-your-glass2/

So here are some tips for the “Ice-in-wine” drinkers:

  • Metal Ice rocks: pop them in your freezer and use them whenever a quick fix is needed!
  • Keep it fancy with an Ice bucket: add 50% ice, 50% water and a splash of salt. You’ll get a perfectly chilled wine in 10-15 minutes.
  • Discover wines that are made to be drunk on the rocks. They do exist and are certainly easy to get your hands on.

If you’re desperate for some cold wine on a hot day (or night) and would like to avoid the above steps, then consider a spritz! Get a large wine glass and add half sparkling water, half wine, lots of ice and maybe a citrus peel for that extra touch, and Voilà! you just got yourself an Instagramable cocktail.

Putting ice in wine is no crime. At the end of the day wine is all about having fun and bringing people together and a means to share experiences and places. No ice cube can ruin that!

See you next week!

Until then.. Strike for a glass half full !
