Many times I’ve found myself around toxic people, and many times I’ve found myself being toxic around people! It took me a while to realise that it’s not that the person is toxic, rather, their behavior is toxic or our relationship is toxic.
I’ve found toxicity in my group of friends, my colleagues and even my family! Whilst I’ve always believed that the difficult part is to remove a toxic person from your life, over the years I’ve realised that the difficult part is merely to spot a toxic person. When managing to identify an abusive, unsupportive, or emotionally unhealthy person, my decision was made easy.
Sometimes, all I had to do was advise the person to self-develop themselves while others had to be removed from my life immediately!
Whenever I talk about toxic people, the same things seem to come up over and over again, so I’m going to point them out for you so that you can spot them too!
- The Conversational Narcissist:
Conversational narcissists LOVE to talk about themselves, or just hear themselves talk. They don’t ask you any questions and they don’t wait for your responses. They are completely self-centered and they don’t care about other people’s needs.
- The Control Freak:
The control freak is someone who wants to control everything and everyone around them. They want to be in charge of what you do, what you say, and even what you think. In a relationship, this person will be constantly nagging you until you are in complete alignment with them.
- The Positivity Sucker:
These are people who always have something sad, negative or pessimistic to say. They can’t see anything positive and their goal in life is to drag everyone down with them.
- The Drama Queen:
These people believe that something always is wrong. Once a problem is solved, another one pops out. Drama queens need your empathy, sympathy and support, but not your advice, because at the end of the day, they don’t want to fix their problem, they only want to complain about it.
Sometimes I find myself being a total drama queen/ drama magnet, too! Whenever I feel that something is wrong with my life, I tend to believe that every aspect of my life is also a total mess. It was only until my best friend pointed this out for me that I tried to develop on this matter
- The Jealous One:
Jealous people are incredibly toxic because they have so much internal self-hate that they can’t be happy for anyone around them, and typically their jealousy comes out as literally mean judgment or criticism.
- The Liar
To me, liars are the most toxic people you can possibly meet in your life. They always build on their lies and when they get caught they try to convince you that they lied in order to “protect” you. In my opinion, small or major, a lie is always a lie and it’s impossible to trust a liar in a relationship.
- A Human Tank
They think they are the smartest person in the room. Every conversation is a personal challenge to them that must be won over. To them, no one is their equal, they are always right, and their ego always comes first! They are incredibly arrogant and see their personal opinions as facts.
Toxicity is everywhere around us, and sometimes it’s even in us! My personal advice is to keep yourself away from any kind of negativity and aim for your personal happiness. At the end of the day, that’s all it matters!

Andrea
