I’ve changed five jobs in four years, and no, I don’t get fired often.
I changed all these jobs because I felt unhappy, demotivated and I just couldn’t find a reason to get out of bed in the morning. I don’t know if it’s because I get bored very easily or if it’s because I still haven’t found what I’m looking for, but in any case, change seemed inevitable.
Let me put you in the picture: I studied Law but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to practise law in Cyprus, (or in any other place in the world) so I’ve tried to experiment a bit. I worked as a secretary, as a personal assistant, as a marketer… I even joined an Accounting Company (for God’s sake!), and now I’m tryyyying to practise law – AGAIN. As you can tell, I’m still not sure about where I see myself in 5 years, but that’s alright! I’ve been trying to settle with jobs I didn’t like, I’ve even been dealing with less than the minimum wage, I’ve been working really hard to prove my worth but at the end of the day, I realised that all that matters is to find my purpose. (Well, I STILL haven’t figured out what this purpose might be, but …I’m on to it!)
Embracing change in work and life in general is vital to growing as an individual and becoming a better version of ourselves. Change might seem the only solution sometimes but it’s definitely not easy. As human beings, we are scared to leave our comfort zone and we naturally repel change. I mean, normalcy is safe and it allows us to live our lives without facing things that could hurt us or disturb us; but is that what we’re actually supposed to do with our lives?
(Okay, that was a bit stressful, I’m sorry!!!) I didn’t mean to stress us all out but isn’t it sad to let our lives pass us by and not do anything about it?
We have to keep in mind that “The only thing constant is change”. The world is changing on a daily basis and all we have to do is to explore the thousands of possibilities and opportunities that are right in front of us but we are often too scared to see them.
Long story short: If you’re not happy with your job, just quit. Find a job that would make you jump out of your bed in the morning and work on your happiness.
I might be a bad influence but right now, all I’m thinking about is quitting my job too. I want to pack my stuff and go to Barcelona to work as a barwoman. Feel free to join me if you want to!!!
Xoxo,
Andrea
