Like every colour, gold is associated with glam and luxury.
Luxury is distinctive. Distinctiveness is unique. Uniqueness stands out.
In order to stand out, it should be few in quantity.
If you want to add glamour to your living room, try adding golden or metallic items in an elegant way. Gold furnishings compliment a room and are also on trend. Elements of gold tend to make a room vivid and interesting, whilst blending effectively with a variety of other colour tones like black or brown (for the bold!), blue (for the courageous), violet (for the elegant), off-white (for the mostly minimal).
However, we must be careful not to allow this luxurious ‘rich’ colour to dominate. Being attentive to the quantity and type of golden items we place in an interior, is extremely important because too many will make the area too dramatic and uncomfortable to say the least! (I guess what I am really trying to say is… kitsch!)
Let’s not forget the striking effect it has.
A few good ways to use it without excessiveness, would be to purchase furniture that is not completely painted or made in gold colour. Better choose combinations with either wood, glass or any other material. Decide on objects partially painted in this hue in any pattern. For instance, a chair with a golden frame around its deep blue fabric is a ‘yes yes YES!’, but a chair with a golden frame and gold fabric is a ‘no no NO!’ It is generally more effective if this striking colour is used in combination to matte finishes.
So be inspired, search the market and decide which items better suit your home and existing tones so you can pick your favourite impressive items!Nicole Ioannides Varnava
