Make-up. Most of us get frustrated or impatient that we have to put it on but let’s be honest it is, unfortunately, a girl’s best friend.

Meeting make-up artist Barbara Nikolakaki at Christian Xenon, my jewelers, for a Christmas campaign, proved to be a good start to our relationship. We hit it off straight away and arranged to meet for the blog. I might be good at face painting but that’s as far as it goes, applying make-up is a no go area for me. I also booked a set of make-up lessons with a group of friends because I thought it was time I learnt how to fix those eyebrows.

Squeezing me into her tight schedule, we met on Wednesday (of course) at 8’o clock in the morning. Coffee on a cold winters morning took place in style at her make up studio, ‘The Make-up Pro’. Bright eyed and bushy tailed (NOT) my sister came along as my victim and model for the morning. Boy did we learn a couple of tricks for those puffy ‘8 o’clock in the morning’ eyes.

Our choice is suitable for any colour outfit excluding red. So if you aren’t wearing red, glam it up our way and greet 2017 in style.

Here’s Barbara’s make up tips:

Apply primer on your whole face, that should keep your make-up in place and smoothen out your skin.

Apply make-up, it should be exactly the same colour as your skin tone so it looks completely       flawless and natural.

Make those eye brows gorgeous and symmetrical using a liquid form brow filler or pencil.

5 1

Start with eye make-up base. (Barbara used a bronze creamy base on Elena).

Then select your eye colours (We opted for sexy, smoky eyes and the eye shadow we chose was a burgundy red).

The eyeliner is next. Master your eye liner according to your eye shape. Elena’s eyes are protruding so she had eyeliner put on the inside and outside of her eye and on the eye lid. For the smoky look, it was all blended together.

Apply mascara.

Use eye concealer after completing the eyes for a perfect finish.

Dust your cheek bones with bronzer. (no blusher was needed on Elena as we opted for strong colours on both the eyes and lips).

To finish off the look use a highlighter on your nose, lips and chin.

See the New Year in with a bold, sparkly or metallic look!

I know it can be intimidating for some but if you can support smoky eyes and a bold colour lipstick, go for it! Elena is wearing a deep burgundy lipstick and lip liner to match her smoky eyes which is the same shade. The result is dynamite! So, if you are thinking of painting the town red, go for it in every sense. Enjoy the New Year boldly, fashionably and in style.

Tip by the make-up pro:

Metallic eyes and lips are trending this season, just make sure you don’t combine the two. Elena could have combined this smoky eye look with a metallic lipstick to glam it up for a more retro look.

How awesome would it be to have your own glam squad at your beck and call? Wishful thinking, ha?
