For all my adult life I’ve been trying to get into the groove – to hit the gym. A very difficult task I must say as I am not a gym person at all! I’d much rather be relaxing than pushing myself to the limits. But truth be said to be on top of my game and to feel good about myself I know the gym is the only way forward. So that ‘twice a week push’ I get from my trainer helps remove a few inches off my tummy. A tummy I’ve always had not because of having my three children but because watching what I eat is just too difficult. I have a sweet tooth and have no intention of letting these simple pleasures in life remain unsatisfied.

After trying out a handful of gyms and trainers over the years, I found someone who suited me and my style, my wants and needs, isn’t full of himself, is low key and dedicated to his job. Better still was that he offered ONLY 25 minute sessions of full body training. Perfect for me! Elinos Miltiadous’ HITT (high intensity interval training) programme he follows was the best thing I’d heard of- a solution to me being in and out in a flash (when I’m not chin wagging with my gym buddies). Generally, this semi-personal training routine I follow is balanced and has results (WHEN I GO)!

Taking a break in November, excuses, excuses, I decided to return to my athletic routine now the holiday season is well and truly over. Feeling like an over inflated balloon after all the food and sweet consumption of the holidays, not to mention the food fest I indulged in when I was in Athens, it was high time I found myself at the gym. I keep telling myself that the beach bod I so desperately want is not going to come and find me, I have to go and find it OR I have to earn it by doing some heavy duty work and maybe up the ‘twice a week work out’ to three times a week. Hey Elinos, maybe now is the time to put some pressure on me!

As we get older we want to and need to look better but it’s so much harder. The decision to go back to the gym hyped up to get my groove back boils down to the summer season countdown. Just the thought of that cellulite jangling around when trying on a bikini in an over lit changing room is enough to make me STICK TO IT. Personally I do think that it is the over lit room that is the BIGGEST problem! Stores and boutiques please see to this.

Monday morning, bright and early 7.45, was I there? Oh yes I was! I managed it and felt good with myself! Where there is a will, there is a way! My gym chums also make it worth my while, even though they have bodies to die for. It’s their bodies that put the pressure on me to continue when my gym mode button switches off.

From burpees to deadlift to the dreaded TRX and to a whole lot more, there’s lots in store for me. They do say though, a healthy body is a healthy mind, and that I agree with. So bring it on!

Buying gym gear also helps! We need to look and feel good at the gym! When you stock up on new clothes for whatever occasion it makes it so much more fun! Apart from the traditional Nike and Adidas I have recently discovered stylish, easy, affordable gear which I love.

Only play found at www.mikellides-sports.com and www.amazon.com are my go-to gym clothes at the moment. I am drawn to these simple, stylish pieces which are high street prices! They look good and are comfy. Lots of monochrome pieces are available to mix and match allowing you to throw an oversized casual tee or sweater on top from a luxe brand (like Charli Cohen, The Upside, Acne Studios) to create a more stylish, casual street style look to take you from the gym to lunch looking fab. I tend to run errands after the gym in the morning so my workout clothes need to ‘work’ outside the gym too. Only play does just that.

So to all you guys out there who are like me, a quick work out eventually goes a long way. Elinos’ motto is to ‘Enjoy life’. Basically he is saying hit the gym, keep fit, stay healthy and look good. That way you’ll enjoy life. Beach bod here I come!
