Nights are longer than days and the cozy stay-ins are the norm in our routine. It is the time where reds are back and white wine is put to the dusty corner of our cellar.

Nonsense!

Think of it this way: your favourite comfy white pair of pants look just as fabulous on you in December, as they do in May. What changes is the way you pair it with your cashmere jumper.

So, why not add white wine to your winter repertoire, it will take away your winter blues.

It is all about texture! Think of it, as a soft, cozy blanket. Some wines can offer the exact same satisfaction!

Baby it’s cold outside and your appetite reacts in longing for richer, fuller food.

Pumpkin soup, gratin potatoes, roasted chicken, apple-braised pork, tangy cheese tarts, creamy sauces and even old-school Mac & Cheese. So many of our favourite winter foods, simply taste (way) better when paired with the proper white wine.

Some whites have a crisp and refreshing style and are meant to be enjoyed in the warmer months, saying that, beautiful, rich and more full-bodied whites, can provide the warmth and bold character we sometimes wish to find in a red wine, during winter.

Look for bottles with more minerality and depth, with an elegant acidity to cut through the fat of bold dishes.

Discover a barrel aged Chardonnay from Burgundy, a Viognier from Rhone, a mature Riesling, or even a fine Bubbly. You will be surprised at how well a Champagne can be paired with a versatile winter lunch.Give white wine the love it deserves! It is just as huge as a category, as the red one. Benefit from winter to discover an unsuspectingly beautiful world of possibilities.

And don’t worry, Spring is on its way. You will get the chance of firing up that grill and pairing  your steak with a nice Californian Zinfandel, in no time!

See you next week!

Cheers, Santé and Yiamas..

Until then.. Strike for a glass half full !
