Want to take your green smoothie to the next level? Try adding some wheatgrass powder!

Wheatgrass is prepared from freshly sprouted leaves of the common wheat plant. It is loaded with nutrients and antioxidants and is an excellent source of chlorophyll, a substance that gives plants their green colour.

Scientists have studied chlorophyll and revealed its powerful health benefits, ranging from its ability to neutralize environmental carcinogens, preventing cancer, reducing cholesterol and fighting age related cell damage.

Wheatgrass is also known for its anti-inflammatory properties. One study found that wheatgrass may help treat ulcerative colitis, an inflammatory bowel disease.

Wheatgrass green Smoothie recipe (1 portion):

  • ¼ cup frozen mango
  • ½ cup frozen pineapple
  • 1 table spoon wheatgrass powder
  • ½ lemon squeezed
  • Small handful of green leafy vegetables (i.e. spinach, cilantro)
  • 1 cup of water
