Hubby’s 40th birthday present from his thoughtful wife 😉 – a ticket to Barca! Yep, I decided to try our luck at bumping into Piquet and Shakira taking him to one of the few places he’d never been to before.
To be honest, Barcelona wasn’t on my wish list but it was on his, so I gave him a holiday to remember – at a place where art and refinement meet culture and gastronomy. Having heard different comments from people, I didn’t quite know what to expect, but those who know me well, knew I would love it and I more than did. It superseded anything I had in mind.
A vital part of a successful holiday is going with a group of friends which are in sync. My husband’s brother and wife along with our best friends made it a holiday to remember! We based our holiday around the quality and quantity of food, drink, lots of walking and sightseeing. Despite it being a big city, the hustle and bustle of city life didn’t exist. This automatically made things easier and more enjoyable for us because even though we had restaurants and activities pre booked, others were decided on whilst we were there.
Going on holiday and visiting places recommended to you by people you trust is way better than any trip adviser stars and reviews. Have a look at what we managed to do in the four days we were there. I ‘trip advise’ it all!
Sights and Streets:
La Rambla, Passeig de Gracia, La Boqueria, Casa Batlo, La Pedrera, The port, The Marina, Barceloneta, Gothic Quarters, The Palace, Water Fountains, The Aquarium, Montjuic, La Sagrada Familia, Park Guel, The Picasso Museum, Camp Nou. The hop on, hop off sightseeing bus helped.
The Food:
I would highly recommend every restaurant we went to. Having two main meals daily plus breakfast, resulted in us never being hungry wholeheartedly but we still made sure flavourful food to delectable deserts were ordered. The food in general ‘was too good to be relinquished’ according to Andreas. There were never any left overs.
Cerveceria Catalana
2254 Tapas
Boca Grande
7 Portes – The oldest restaurant in Barcelona, 182 years old.

Cinco Jotas
Feroz (out of this world)
The Hotel:
Alexandra Barcelona Hotel in Eixample is perfectly located, just behind Passeig de Gracia. This city hotel was clean, spacious and very welcoming and I would definitely stay there again.
The Shops:
SIMPLY AMAZING!
The show:
Gran Gala Flamenco at Palau de la Musica – EXQUISITE! This show took our breath away, the music and dancing were out of this world.
I can’t believe I’m writing this but my Camp Nou experience will never be forgotten. I might be surrounded by football lovers but the sound and sight of football always drove me crazy! My perspective has changed. This goose pimply experience made football larger than life and I see now why my son is so in awe of the field, the game and the players!
Barcelona I hope to see you very soon!
