There are many reasons that can interfere with your success. Now is a time to consider unconscious behavior and actions that are keeping you from reaching your goals.

Learning about self-sabotage can help you stop this unconscious cycle so you can go and be successful in any way you want.

Pointers to reflect on (Remember, these are unconscious thoughts, so your first reaction may be “That’s not how I think”. I urge you to dig deeper):

  1. Fear of failure. Failure is hard to manage, ignore, or handle. It can eat away at your self-esteem and make you doubt your abilities, so it’s not surprising you’ll do anything to avoid it. BUT! “Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.” – Winston Churchill

  1. Low self-esteem. If you lack confidence and suffer from low self-esteem, self-sabotaging your success may be something you subconsciously do on purpose!
  • You might think you don’t deserve success, so you unconsciously destroy any chance you have of getting it.

  1. Fear of change. Success is often tied to change, such as a new job, new career, new gym & diet routine. “If you don’t like how things are, change them! You are not a tree!” – Jim Rohn
  • g. you may claim that you want to have a 6 pack, but you don’t actually want to pay for gym membership or take responsibility for your body. So, you ensure you’ll never have one.

  1. Control issues. This is a BIG one. Are you allowing your control issues to prevent you from reaching success?
  • Control and perfectionism are often tied together. If you want everything to be perfect all the time, then you may be losing out on big, important opportunities.

  1. Do you have empowering or disempowering habits?
  • Eg: if you have a habit of always being late to meetings, then you may miss your chance to impress a client and get a raise. You self-sabotage your own success because of an old habit.

  1. Negativity and criticism. A negative voice can be both your own and from your close circle (family, friends etc).
  • If you constantly hear that you’re not good enough, smart enough, or talented enough, then you begin to believe this. You feel that you don’t deserve to be successful.

Whenever a thought appears that doesn’t support you in an empowering way, immediately replace it with a positive thought, instead. You’ll get better and better at both recognizing dis-empowering thoughts and changing them the more you practice it.

So do you feel you are sabotaging yourself?

I want you to believe first of all that it is possible to change this!!! Quoting the famous ABBA: “TAKE A CHANCE!” Take a chance on YOU!
