Saving the planet sounds like an insurmountable task doesn’t it? And in essence, it is. But there are many simple actions we can all take to help. As teachers, we did ours and our students did theirs.

Aside from blogging, as you probably know, I work in an English language school. Our job is to try and be as innovative and creative as possible whilst teaching fundamental language skills, grammar and vocab. Gone are old methods, which were boring and repetitive. Now it’s all about project based learning and we rock at this!

Before Christmas, our 13 year olds did a whole blitz on planet earth. Although they were all very much aware of changes that need to be made, we still went through vital steps which can help reduce our ecological footprint. The project kicked off with inspirational activities to engage our students interest: from   You Tube videos to emotive visuals,  from poignant reading materials to critical thinking case studies. The final outcome being for the students to produce a piece of writing, which was in fact a blog post;).

We made it a little more competitive by show casing the best pieces of writing  on Wednesday Morning Coffee!

The winners were, Michael Constantinides and Nikoletta Vassiliou

It’s never too late to start caring!

How much do you know about the dangers threatening our planet? Well, let me tell you that every second of our lives 2,57 million pounds of carbon dioxide is emitted into the air! Sounds crazy doesn’t it?

Many people think that it’s impossible to do something and that’s the reason our planet is in a worse situation every day. But that’s not truth. The only way to fix our ecological footprint is to believe that we can do it and every person is responsible and should do something to help.

The most important issue our planet has to face is the green house affect and the climate changes. There are many solutions to these problems but the best and most known is recycling and reusing. Every year we throw away tons of rubbish either on the ground or on the beach and that is causing a lot of the pollution we can stop.

Some of the easiest things we can do is to clean up our beaches and use less plastic, or throw our plastic bottles in the recycling bins. Doesn’t sound that hard, does it? You can also inform your friends and family to get environmental awareness.

So, what are you waiting for! Go outside, spread awareness and do your best before we run out of time. Our planet is a wonderful gift that we must appreciate and take care of.

‘To save nature is to save us, to betray nature is to betray us’

Did you know that an average of 100 acres’ of rainforest is being cut down every single minute? This is catastrophic! Our planet, is suffering and we need to start caring.

Lots of serious issues are threatening our planet. Some of which are, Climate change, air and water pollution and Ozone Layer Depletion are some examples that need to be fixed as soon as possible.

We must immediately, take action in order to reduce our ecological footprint.
How?…. There are so many daily actions that we as students can do. For example, we can conserve energy by switching off the lights when not in use. It is effective and it doesn’t cost anything. We should all start recycling too. Just think, that over 60% of the trash that ends in the dustbin could be recycled.

Apart from these actions we should influence people to do the same. Tell them the severity of the problem by showing them documentaries or raising their awareness through social media. Everyone should be informed because everyone is necessary.

What are you waiting for? Let’s globally warm our hearts and make a change for both this generation and for generations to come!
