How many different hats do you wear daily?

Wearing different “hats” simply means we take on different roles in life. Instead of drowning with all the responsibilities that come with each role, try to have fun with each one. Categorize your time into these different roles rather than separate your responsibilities.

  • Boss/employee
  • Wife/husband
  • Chef
  • Mother/father
  • Friend
  • Volunteer
  • Gardener
  • Cleaner
  • Taxi driver

What other roles can you think of? Wearing a specific hat for each role will give you more confidence and clarity to tackle each situation differently and with the necessary expertise.

Saying that, this is not to suggest that you should transform into a different person each time.

In order not to lose yourself, being true to yourself is the most validating thing you can do. When you sense that, no matter which hat you’re wearing, you’re harmonious and at ease with the task at hand, you will experience a sense of peace and calmness.

A small exercise to help with this:

  • Write down a set of values that define you and recite them daily. This will keep you true to yourself even when wearing different ‘hats’. If a role pushes you away from those values then it might be the beginning of you losing yourself!

Women deserve much more credit than what is given and this quote sums it up:

“Women wear many hats in their lives. Daughter, sister, student, breadwinner. But no matter where we are or what we’re doing, one hat that moms never take off is the crown of motherhood. There is no crown more glorious.” Ann Romney
