If you follow the trends in healthy eating and fitness you have probably come across Intermittent Fasting. What is Intermittent Fasting and is it really worth the hype? Let’s take a closer look.

In recent years more and more research proves the powerful benefits of fasting. Fasting can:

– help people lose weight,

– normalize insulin sensitivity,

– improve gut and liver function,

– help in the management of autoimmune conditions,

– decrease inflammation,

– balance the immune system,

– help in cancer prevention and treatment and

– may slow down the ageing process.

Fasting means to abstain from food and drink for a specific amount of time. During this time no caloric drinks of food can be consumed. You can only drink tea and coffee during the time period you are doing the fast. There are several types of fasting that are gaining popularity and there is no specific food that has to be eaten.

16:8 Rule

  • The 16:8 type of fasting allows people to eat in an 8-hour window.
  • So if, for example, you have breakfast at 11 a.m. you should have your last meal at 7 p.m.
  • If you skip breakfast and have lunch at 1 o clock, you can eat your last meal, snack or food for the day at 9 p.m.
