We all love a good body massage every so often as it helps take away unwanted stress build up, relaxes any muscle tightness, improves blood flow or simply pampers us and makes us feel like a million dollars! But did you know, we can also benefit immensely from a facial massage? I read an article recently which listed all the good things we can get out of a weekly facial massage but what excited me the most is the fact that it can be done in the comfort of our home! No matter how many products we use daily, a facial massage is that ‘extra bit’ which we are all looking for which adds radiance to our face!
A facial massage stimulates the skin and muscles, gets the blood and lymph moving in the face which in turn creates a bright, even skin tone. Just like the rest of your body, facial muscles need some form of exercise to keep us looking healthy and fresh! Basically it doesn’t only feel good but it does a hell of a lot more! Stimulating the face muscles helps bring oxygen to the area – and we all know that oxygen is a natural form of anti-aging skin care in itself. More blood flow and more collagen production results in a healthy, natural glowing complexion. A weekly facial massage can also help decongest pores and allow your facial products to penetrate deeper into your skin.
Here are a few simple moves to do whenever you feel your face needs it. I personally try to massage in my daily creams and not just put them on as I feel they absorb much better and work more efficiently.
- Take your moisturizing cream or oil and apply it all over you face. Simply tap your face to awaken the muscles.
- Slowly move your fingers with an upward motion all over your forehead. This releases any tension and helps tighten frown lines.
- With intense strokes start from the centre of your chin and move towards your cheekbone. Repeat it 3-6 times on each side. This activates the muscles even more and the promotes toning of your face.
- Using the same intense stroking movements start from the side of your nose and move towards the top of your cheekbone repeating 3-6 times again on each side. This increases blood flow giving you a fresh pinkish look.
- Last but not least, the eyes. When it come to the eyes it is important to remember that the skin around them is a lot thinner than the rest of the face and unfortunately because of this, the eye contour is the first area to show signs of aging. When massaging this area, the pressure that should be applied is much less than the rest of the face that’s why we always tend to use the ring finger to apply any product as it’s the weakest in strength. Move your fingers in a semi-circular motion gently around the eyes. This helps to de-puff them and give you an instant feeling of calmness. Tip: never drag the skin – apply enough product so that the motion is a gliding one.
‘Till next week…
