Does the saying “become like water my friend,” ring a bell? Some childhood kung fu related memories perhaps. Think Bruce Lee. His famous quote is as relevant in 2019 as it ever was.

In our fast, paced world with so many things happening and changing each day, it is vital to have a strong mindset with the required flexibility to adapt and overcome challenges.

Maybe you recently lost your job or missed a promotion. Perhaps your relationship wasn’t’ as glam as you thought it was. Maybe the government is giving you false hope, which you are starting to question. Today we are bombarded with information and nonstop changes and somehow we are expected to cope.

My advice? Listen to Bruce Lee and become as fluid and flexible as water.

How to become more like water:

  1. Learn to adapt. I believe a vital key to success is learning to adapt to various situations. Staying in line may help you survive, but learning to adapt is the way to thrive in an everchanging world.
  2. Do not let society box you in. Would you describe yourself as a stereotype? Do you often tell yourself “that’s not something I would do?” Don’t allow these silly restrictions take over your life. Accept the fact that you are not one thing!
  3. Be open-minded.  Remove mental restrictions you pose on yourself, drop the “I know that” syndrome and enjoy being curious. It is a revelation!
  4. Accept and embrace change. Ryan Holiday’s book “The obstacle is the way,” explains that obstacles in our path present us with an opportunity. Either to be better, or to take a better route. If you accept the change, it is easier to see such opportunities!

“Be like water making its way through cracks. Do not be assertive, but adjust to the object, and you shall find a way around or through it. If nothing within you stays rigid, outward things will disclose themselves. Empty your mind, be formless. Shapeless, like water. If you put water into a cup, it becomes the cup. You put water into a bottle and it becomes the bottle. You put it in a teapot, it becomes the teapot. Now, water can flow or it can crash. Be water, my friend.”
Bruce Lee

Be more flexible and enjoy an awesome level of freedom!
