Decorating your home is by no means an easy task. Finalizing a style, selecting your furniture and staying within your budget is fundamentally what interior decorating is all about. Of course, having an interior designer on call, life is much easier and less stressful. Over the years I’ve gradually completed the interior to all the rooms in my house having had expert advice. Our strategy was to accumulate items piece by piece as and when we could afford.

Our interior designer started off by creating a floor plan which gave us a rough idea of where we would place our furniture based on what we needed. We made sure we started off with key pieces and then over the years incorporated accent pieces too.  These weren’t the focal point of the room, but served to bring the room together and enabled me to add splashes of colour, pattern or texture into the room. Accent pieces provide opportunities to freely experiment with your furniture selection- to choose items with unexpected shapes or details, if you’re partial to them.

Recently, we decided to complement our sitting room with a couple of chairs. It gave the space a real lift. I’ve experienced so much fun decorating my spaces slowly and carefully. Knowing the item of furniture or signature piece we want next keeps us looking forward to something and getting really excited when we finally get it. Going back to the two chairs, they are textured accent chairs which style up the space and add more seating. We still have a couple of chairs to go, some more lighting to enhance certain areas and a few bits and bobs here and there. Decorating a home is never ending.

It’s quite funny really, besides the fact that these two chairs bear a striking resemblance to our Maltese dog coconut, we absolutely love them and they have really made a difference to our space. We knew a couple of years ago that we wanted them but we only got round to getting them recently.

So, an accent chair or two can make a big difference to your space whether needed for extra seating or to give some character!  And just like me, you will feel you have a new living room.
