Surveys show that 43% of adults read at least a single novel, story, poem, or play annually.

Do you find yourself wanting to read more but like many others things in life, things keep getting in the way?

Or perhaps, your reading is limited to Facebook updates, twitter feeds or the directions on your microwavable oatmeal packet?

If you’re one of many people who don’t make a habit of reading regularly, you are definitely missing out.

Here’s how to make reading more interesting and more accessible:

Follow your passions. Start with something you love, whether it’s Bob Marley’s biography or Happy Potter collection.

  1. Know when to quit. Not all books will engage you so if you’re bored with one title, move on.
  2. Lend and borrow. Reading will be more enjoyable when you can look forward to discussing your thoughts with others. You may also learn more about yourself and your loved ones.
  3. Post reviews. You may find that you read more carefully when you know you’re going to report on what you think.
  4. If it’s difficult to carve out a full free hour, read when you can. Waiting for your kid to finish school or sitting in the waiting area for an appointment.

Most importantly, enjoy it!

“It is what you read when you don’t have to that determines what you will be when you can’t help it.”  Oscar Wilde

Reading sharpens your thinking, reduces your stress levels, stimulates your brain, gives you knowledge, enhances your vocabulary and can actual improve your memory!
