Unfortunately, most of us have experienced the unwanted acne at some point in our lives. Whether a teenager or an adult, most of the time acne is the result of pores becoming clogged due to too much sebum and too many dead skin cells. Bacteria can then get trapped inside the pores and multiply. This causes swelling and redness — the start of acne. That’s why having a correct skincare routine is of utmost importance (have a read through our ‘Everything you need to know about cleansing’ and ‘Cleansing’ articles) Of course there might also be an underlying hormonal imbalance which you might have to look into.

If you do have acne prone skin, then you need to be careful when choosing your foundation. Read reviews, check ingredients and if you can, test the product on a small surface of your skin to see if you have a reaction to it. Try using a product that includes salicylic acid as this helps by dissolving the type of skin debris that congests the pores. Be cautious though not to use it for too long as it may cause adverse effects. Below you will find some suggestions of foundations for problematic skins.
