The dreaded dark circles! Discolouration under the eyes or in the inner and outer corners of the eyes is something natural since the skin around that area is much thinner and as a result the blood vessels and the blood they contain are more visible.

Many makeup companies have been marketing their eye illuminators as multi-purpose products e.g. brightening, illuminating AND concealing. But as someone who suffers from dark circles I feel they don’t deliver on the concealing part. I believe eye illuminators should be used to make eyes appear larger, brighter, and less tired. So my advice is that they should be used in addition to a concealer!

The steps to follow when using an eye illuminator are:

  1. Correct
  2. Conceal
  3. Set with translucent powder
  4. and FINALLY apply eye illuminator

Take care though when applying the illuminator as you don’t want to end up looking like a panda. Make sure you draw an inverted triangle so you are then able to blend it and make the cut off point less obvious and more natural. If you stop the highlighting where your cheekbone starts you will end up attracting more attention to the wrong part of your face and make your eyes appear hollow.

My suggestions:
