Sitting in the kitchen with my sister nearing her wedding day, we were both sure we had thought of the best hashtag for her wedding #Georgeandellietietheknot (George and Ellie tie the knot) note the idiomatic expression which is very relevant considering we are English teachers. That was until my clever brother in law came up with #3165 days later:

I loved it! It was catchy and it was different!

Our bride and groom were a vision of pure happiness on their big day. Both radiant and gorgeous they made sure their guests were thrust into party mode from the very start. Lots of preparation, stress and anxiety to make sure everything was perfect was easily forgotten, it was just what we had all dreamed of. A day filled with love, happiness and understated style (important to mention). But as Carrie tells Charlotte in SATC, it’s not the wedding, it’s the marriage that is important – and I drink to that!

Getting married 12 years ago there were no children around to act as bridesmaids and pageboys and at the time I couldn’t have been happier. Quite frankly I didn’t want young children running up and down on the dance floor on the most important day of my life – previous weddings had put me off. However, it goes without saying that when there are children in the family, dressing them up is as special and so very exciting, they adopted a significant leading role and took on given responsibilities with much-awaited eagerness. And it goes without saying that they executed their role with style pomp and circumstance. Our children truly soaked it all up! The buzz, the lead-up and their excitement, was worth having them there even though it drove us crazy. They couldn’t get enough of our bride and groom, they were so proud to be at the wedding and it was really cute to witness.

Weddings really do bring friends and family closer together. It is tear-jerking to think that so many people which we hadn’t seen for years were able to make it to share this day with us. The bride and groom ‘had the time of their lives’ literally and metaphorically (this was what they danced to!) Sharing their great day, witnessing their love and being totally involved in the celebrations prior during and the post-wedding day was extra special.

The couple, the location, the flowers, the photographer, the DJ, it was all a fairy tale come true.

So, as the oldest sister of the bride I would like to wish this newly wedded couple all the happiness in the world. If their wedding day is a reflection on what their marriage will be like, then they are in for some non-stop fun, love and crazy times! Cheers!
