We are fully back! I hope you are enjoying your holidays. Today it’s all about body exfoliation for brides but the advice applies to all. Face and Body exfoliation is a really important part of anti-aging and overall skin health.

What does exfoliation actually do?

In a nut shell, exfoliation is the process of removing dead skin cells and we do this to increase cell turnover. This allows fresh and more youthful skin cells to come to the surface and these cells are more likely to absorb and utilize all the goodness from our skincare. Exfoliating (face and body) also stimulates the body’s natural collagen production. Trust me, after the age of 20, we all want this!

How often should I exfoliate?

To see the benefits, you need to be exfoliating your face once to twice per week. This depends on the strength of the exfoliator. If you are unsure, please ask me. For your body, once a month every month to begin with, with an aim to build it up to two to three times per month. If you can build up to exfoliating your body once a week even better!

How to body exfoliate at home

I will normally exfoliate my face first and then apply my face mask. In the time that my mask requires to do its job, I will start exfoliating my body.

Dry Brushing (body brush) – The best way to start for the body is on dry skin before you get into the bath or shower. Don’t exfoliate if you are sunburned or have any cuts or open wounds. Start by dry brushing. If you are unsure about in what direction to brush, I was always told to brush towards the heart. Start from your feet and work upwards.

Dry Brushing not only aids exfoliation but it also helps with cellulite and stimulates the lymphatic support system. Brush each section of your body, gently but firmly, approximately 10 times. Aim to dry brush once to twice per week.

The Body Scrub – Look for salt or sugar when it comes to body scrubbing. Thoroughly wet your skin in the shower or bath. Turn the water off and start scrubbing. Again start from your feet and work up in circular motions. Take your time and enjoy it! Once you have finished, rinse off with lukewarm water. You might feel a slight itch either once you are exfoliating or once you have rinsed off. Do not worry; this is your body telling you that the scrub has done its job.

Oil Up – After exfoliation, it is the perfect time to use your best ingredients to hydrate and comfort the skin. This is when I reach for my Elemis body oils. There are various body oil fragrances offered by Elemis these days but my favourite is the Frangipani Monoi body oil. It is truly an exotic indulgence and I adore it. You can even use this oil in your hair for a deep conditioning treatment.

Make My Body Glow – There is only one shimmer oil, which has stood the test of time for me, and this is from NUXE. So many brands have tried to copy and failed. It is the NUXE Huile Prodigieuse OR Multi-Usage Dry Oil – Golden Shimmer. It is stunning. It is a multi-award winning dry oil so it does not leave you with an oil slicked body. It will leave your wedding day skin (or for any other special event) looking moisturised and give you that all over healthy body glow with a hint of shimmer.
