I don’t know about you but whenever I watch a film I can’t help but focus on the make up looks. It can be very distracting when trying to follow a narrative, but if you are a make up lover like me, an amazing make up look in a good film can give you life! There is nothing more inspiring than this!

We all remember the most iconic make up icons in films from the 20th century like Clara Bow in all of her 20’s films, Elizabeth Taylor as Cleopatra, Marilyn Monroe in Gentlemen Prefer Blonds, Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the ethereal Grace Kelly from the 50’s Bridget Bardot in the 60’s, and so on and so forth.

However, today I will focus more on recent films that I have personally loved watching and enjoyed their exquisite make up look.

1.Factory Girl (2006)

Honestly the images don’t do it justice. Beautiful mod eyes with matte powders and thick fake black lashes paired with pale lips. What’s not to love?

2. Girl With A Pearl Earing (2003)

If you think there is no make up because it looks like she’s not wearing any, you are mistaken. This is a masterpiece of an angelic ethereal and innocent make up look.  Bleached brows to perfection, blush would come and go depending on the scene and gorgeous matte skin. This is stunning.

3.The Royal Tenenbaums (2001)

Specifically Gwyneth Paltrow and her iconic black kohl smudged eyeliner all around the eye. The make up is designed to fit perfectly Gwyneth’s character; I couldn’t imagine her with something else. ICONIC!

4.Black Swan (2010)

No need for words really. The make up is literally stunning, both when Natalie Portman was a white swan and later a black swan. The make up change between the 2 is breathtaking.

5.Nights in Cabiria (1957) / Le Notti di Cabiria (1957)

A beautiful Italian film by Fellini, where the protagonist’s eyebrows change shape throughout the movie depending on the circumstances she’s in and consequently her feelings. Super interesting!
