I bet we all feel the same about storage space! It is never enough! Think about it. Are you content with the amount of big cupboards in your home to arrange bulky items? I am talking about house objects and shapeless mass like bicycles, gardening or DIY tools, brooms, watering cans or that ladder which is convenient when needed, but totally annoying to look at. I may have a solution for you, if you have an easily accessible internal garage.
First of all, if your garage has a high ceiling, it would be ideal to create a small mezzanine level. If budget doesn’t allow it, then consider creating hanging shelves. This will allow you to have almost double the storage space. Garages are usually overflown with clutter simply because throw things in and close the door, hiding it from our eyes and our minds. There are clever ways to change this and turn it into the best and most practical garage ever. Cabinets, shelving and other solutions are available to help you get a handle on the seemingly out of control space.
An empty wall in the garage is all you need for your storage inspiration. Build cabinets, drawers and cupboards to help you store things, but don’t forget shelves and pegboards to hang tools or anything that comes to mind. If you are a DIY person too, a workbench might be useful as well. Moreover, painting the cupboards and drawers in an interesting color might also be inspiring, as well as steering from the usual boring garage. This just might motivate you to even keep it clean and tidy, but also wanting to use it more.
How you arrange your items on the shelves or inside the cupboards is also very important. It won’t really help space-wise if you just throw them in. Better to get boxes, cases and/or buckets of a size that fits your storage space, name them and carefully place your stuff there. That way you will know what you’ve got and where it is.
If you are wondering why I’m bothering to post about a garage, allow me to say that garages can be transformed into very attractive sets with practical solutions as well as correct lighting. I am sure a sensible, handy person with a functional mind can come up with clever alternatives. Additionally, an interior designer will elevate these ideas into appealing solutions which might have the users wanting to almost live inside their garage!
When you look at a photo of a clean home, you might think it only belongs in magazines. A clean home is essential to managing stress in your life. It’s as simple as giving every item in your home a place. Suddenly, tidying a space becomes easy and you have your home looking like it belongs in a magazine. Same applies for your garage.
Who says you cannot create this image for your own garage?
