September is gone and if you’re like me, you probably feel like a mini tsunami has just hit, left you feeling drained and counting the days for the Christmas Holidays! However, until the next holiday, there are many goals to be achieved, projects to be completed and work to be done. How can we keep ourselves energized and focused?

I recently read about the concept of 1 Personal Development Day a week.  For 1 day a week, people focus entirely on their own development, focusing on goals, positive and forward-thinking topics. The point is to feed the body, mind and soul with all the “good juice” that we need in order to rev up again!

To simplify this and make it practical in our hectic routines, I’ve laid down a plan for 1 Personal Development Day a Month. This will 100% rejuvenate you, allow you to refocus, give you strength and clarity of mind.

The following are only suggestions, you can adjust to your personal life as you see fit.

  • Mentally prepare for the day

Have some tea/coffee in a quiet ambiance and eat a light breakfast.

Take some notes, enjoy the peace and quiet and let your “soul” speak to you.

  • Get started!

Take a 2-3 hour walk preferably in nature. Have your pen and paper somewhere accessible to right down moments of inspiration.

Go for a hike and discuss personal and professional growth with a friend/partner.

  • Take a break

Have a healthy, light lunch, avoid smoking, avoid noisy places and most importantly avoid criticizing or gossiping.

  • Continue the day

Read a book on self-development (Ryan Holiday is currently my favorite author).

Spend 60 minutes catching up with friends. Make sure discussions are meaningful, be vulnerable, share struggles, don’t gossip.

Get a massage and remove all toxicity from your body.

  • Finish the day

A well-deserved bubble bath with candles (Yes, for both men and women. Guys, don’t go all “macho” on me now. Trust me, a bubble bath is sometimes EXACTLY what we need).

Have sushi for takeout or chose a light dinner

  • Important throughout the day:

No pointless distractions.

Don’t waste time on your phone. Today is personal development day and not rest day.

If you can deal with it tomorrow, then focus on yourself today!

Give yourself this immeasurable gift and you will thank yourselves later 😉
